Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association is a bipartisan organization of Governors from the 55 states, territories and commonwealths whose mission is to share best practices, speak with an informed voice on national policy and develop innovative solutions to improve citizensí lives through state government and support the principles of federalism.  

Through NGA, Governors identify priority issues and deal with matters of public policy and governance at the state and national levels. Our policy and research arm, the NGA Center for Best Practices, helps Governors find collective answers to common issues and assists in developing and implementing innovative solutions to public policy challenges. Our Government Relations team ensures that Governors are a strong voice in Washington, DC. NGA also provides total consultative services, including management and technical assistance to both new and incumbent Governors, their senior executive staff and their trusted advisors.

NGA is looking to add a bright, resourceful, and organized Deputy Press Secretary and Marketing Analyst to our Communications team. You will consistently communicate NGAís accomplishments and position to the tradition(al) media and new media through NGAís social channels.
Other important responsibilities of the Deputy Press Secretary and Marketing Analyst include:

  • Is point for daily Executive Director email to Governors
  • Is point on Membership Monthly newsletter
  • Plans and creates social media campaign posts 
  • Focuses on relationships with reporters and social media influences and develops strategic opportunities for outreach, including state media;
  • Writes news releases, advisories, newsletters, fact sheets and other content to promote Governors; and
  • Creates talking points;    
  • Performs necessary research and crafts long-term strategic vehicles for promoting NGAís messages and stories bringing support to both traditional and social media teams; 
  • Demonstrating a commitment to NGAís mission and goals to constructively serve the needs of all Governors; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Communications.

Candidates should have a bachelorís degree preferable in communications, marketing or related field. One to three plus years working in areas of communications or marketing. Experience working with Governors, working in federal or state agencies or non-profit organizations is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to:   

  • Media or PR, experience;
  • Ability to support NGAís bipartisan agenda;
  • Demonstrated superior writing skills; 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Trave, as necessary.
