Operations Director

The National Governors Association (NGA) seeks an experienced professional to join us as the Operations Director, a key position in the organizationís leadership.   

Weíre seeking a seasoned and dedicated professional who will report directly to our CEO, someone who can manage the associationís day-to-day operations as NGA continues its rapid growth.

NGA is the nonpartisan organization of the nationís governors. Through NGA, governors share best practices, address issues of national and state interest, and share innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism.

Weíre driven by our mission ó and you will also need to share that passion for solutions to today's most pressing public policy challenges.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

NGA believes in creating and instilling a caring culture of commitment, excellence and achievement. The Operations Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of key initiatives, as determined by the CEO, always with an eye on NGA delivering on its promises to governors and other stakeholders, as well as meeting and logistical coordination, and management of NGAís IT division.

With many competing initiatives, NGA requires a leader in this role who can multitask and maintain composure while helping senior leaders deliver on the associationís ambitions.  The candidate must be comfortable independently managing multiple responsibilities in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS 

The ideal candidate will bring five years or more of high-level management experience and have a history of work that demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to operational focus.  

  • Bachelorís degree and a minimum of five years of experience in high-level management of non-profits or business operations;
  • Passion for public policy and state solutions, which should be demonstrated in a previous role in one or both of these areas;
  • Deep experience briefing a C-Suite principal;
  • Deep experience working with high-level elected leaders;
  • Previous experience helping the CEO shape day-to-day operations;
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and communications skills; and
  • A team player focused on achieving results
  • Ability to work on a bipartisan basis to support NGAís mission and goals;
  • Willingness to work weekends and late evenings, as needed; and
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
