Management Consulting & Training Scholar

Project Description:

The intern will participate in the ongoing activities of the NGA Office of Management Consulting and Training (OMCT) which provides critical operational and management services to governors, governors’ spouses and their senior staff members. OMCT provides assistance on the leadership and management of state government and the organization, staffing and operation of the governor’s office.


The intern will work with OMCT on the following dedicated projects:


NGA Governors Biographies Website Database (Research, Writing and Editing): assist with OMCT’s efforts to review and update biographies of former governors for NGA’s searchable, online Governors Database. This project includes conducting tests of the database search features as well as outreach and managing communications with internal and external contacts.


NGA Former Governors, Spouses and Staff Contact Database (Research and Data Tracking): assist with OMCT’s efforts to review and reorganize our internal database of contact information for former governors, their spouses and former governors’ staff members, as well as review and update NGA’s historical database of governors’ chiefs of staff. This project includes conducting research, outreach and managing communications with internal and external contacts.


Development of Governors’ Alumni Program (Research, Writing and Technology): assist with NGA’s current planning process to revamp and tailor new resources and engagement opportunities with former governors. This project will involve collaborating with OMCT and NGA’s Office of Communications to develop marketing materials, draft written and digital correspondence and create new resource documents.



We are in search of an intern with an interest in state government and public administration/management, especially in learning about U.S. governors and the roles and responsibilities carried out by governors and their staff to govern and manage effectively. Applicants must possess exceptional oral and written communications skills, research skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and exhibit professionalism. At least one year of undergraduate studies in public administration/management or a related field.



This is a paid internship at $15/hour for the Summer of 2019.
